KYALA Community Challenge 2010

The Kentucky Chapter was recognized by the ALA for its continuous participation in the Community Challenge Weekend from 1999-2008.

The Community Challenge Committee has wrapped up its 12th Annual Community Challenge Weekend (CCW) projects. In August the Chapter partnered with IKON and OfficeWare to provide backpacks for school-aged children living at Wayside Christian Mission in Louisville and The Hope Center in Lexington. The CCW committee shopped and along with Chris Miller, Jonathan Harkins (IKON) and Jenny Church (Officeware), delivered 80 backpacks to Wayside Christian Mission and 50 backpacks to The Hope Center. A special thanks to IKON and OfficeWare for donating $500 each and partnering with us in supporting our community!

In September, the committee organized a clothing drive for Wayside Christian Mission in Louisville, The Hope Center in Lexington and The Sparrows Wardrobe in Owensboro, Kentucky. A total of 21 firms participated in the clothing drive and an amazing 300 boxes/bags of professional and casual clothes for men, women and children were collected.

Many thanks to the committee and to all participating firms and groups who contributed to this year’s success! The Kentucky Chapter has a history of successful CCW projects and we look forward to additional projects and organizations we can assist in 2011!

Purpose/Mission of the CCW

Various organizations and communities are challenged on a daily basis - trying to obtain the resources they need to help people and further their cause. As we know, the unfortunate are also challenged - they often lead a life that not many can relate to and it's a challenge for them to receive the emotional, physical and financial help they need to get through the day.

To help those in need tackle their every day challenges, the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) created its Community Challenge Weekend (CCW) program in 1999 where it encourages ALA chapters, its members, firms, vendors, relatives and friends to come together to contribute time, energy and resources toward improving their own communities. KYALA has supported this worthy program from the beginning and is now in its 12th year of participation.

Thanks to all for your support!
