As we enter into our 11th year of participation, The Kentucky Chapter ALA and the Legal Community collected new shoes from June 15 through August 1, for our 2009 Community Challenge Project.
The shoes (for Kindergarten - 12th Grade) were distributed to the Jefferson County Public Schools Clothing Assistance Program, which provides new school clothes to families in need.
Thanks to all who contributed.
Purpose/Mission of the CCW
Various organizations and communities are challenged on a daily basis - trying to obtain the resources they need to help people and further their cause. As we know, the unfortunate are also challenged - they often lead a life that not many can relate to and it's a challenge for them to receive the emotional, physical and financial help they need to get through the day.
To help those in need tackle their every day challenges, the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) created its Community Challenge Weekend (CCW) program in 1999 where it encourages ALA chapters, its members, firms, vendors, relatives and friends to come together to contribute time, energy and resources toward improving their own communities.
The Kentucky Chapter held a number of fundraising events in 2008 to benefit two food banks; Dare to Care Food Bank in Louisville, and God’s Pantry in Lexington. Cash donations provide the food banks the ability to purchase $10 worth of food for each $1 contributed. In addition to its CCW project, the chapter donated $1,000 to The Smile Train.
Thanks to all for your support!
